Palawan State University - Drive for Excellence
The Palawan State University humble beginnings can be traced from the then small time teacher-training institution that begins to enroll only about 101 students as the total population for both the BS Elementary Education and BS Elementary Programs.
The transition of what started as a teacher-training institution begins to evolve from March 2, 1972, where by virtue of Republic Act 4304, Palawan State University was known to be Palawan Teachers College. On February 27, 1984, the institution was changed into Palawan State College which opens the door for opportunity to extend their course offerings from teacher education to arts, science and technology related courses. With concerted efforts of its administration, faculty and staff members the institution finally attains the honor of becoming a State University on November 12, 1994, making it the pioneer University in Palawan. This is credited due to the virtue of Republic Act 7818 that was approved by the Senate with the appointment of Board of Regents as the governing body of the Palawan State University.
This breakthrough continues to inspire the governing bodies behind the Palawan State University to pursue higher visions for the University in thrusts for better quality education for instruction with linkages in extension, production and research in line with bringing technological development and income generating projects to subsidize worthwhile endeavors geared for the improvement of the Palawan State University.
Wise income management of the Palawan State University managed to help it extend expansion programs for their campuses finally reaching to 16 campuses with the highest number of enrollees in Region IV. Its main campus is situated in Puerto Princesa with 4 new extension campuses further comprising of different other satellite campuses. The Palawan State University provided to the local community at least 1000 jobs for its faculty and staff members.

With its drive for education excellence, the Palawan State University ardently tried to reach its goals of producing globally competitive students with its quality education and services. Their efforts were merited when they obtained an outstanding rating awarded by the Department of Budget and Management in the 2005 Agency Performance Review. And as an icing to the cake, the Palawan State University also gained the prestige of belonging to the Top Ten Law Schools in the Philippines. The Palawan State University also takes pride for obtaining an impressive passing percentage of 80% in the CPA Licensure Examination just recently last May 2007. With this accomplishment, the Palawan State University emerges as number one in the Top Performing Schools in the May 2007 CPA Licensure Exam for the category of 10-15 examinees.
Other highly commendable performance and accomplishments attained by the Palawan State University include the expansion of its education programs on exchange students and faculty agreement with international schools, external project linkages with foreign institutions, continuous structural improvement for the University and numerous successful income generating projects that subsidize just compensations to its faculty and staff members and procurement of technology based equipments.
Beyond these overwhelming achievements, the Palawan State University never falters with its continuing perseverance on providing quality and globally competitive education programs and institution of technology to aid the growth and learning of its students. The drive towards excellence by the Palawan State University serves as an inspiration among other education institutions, state colleges and universities for improvement to aim for quality service and performance excellence in the field of education.
